Daily Fun fact: In Higuchi's previous work 'M to N no Shozou' and her current work Gakuen Alice both the male and female protagonists start with the same letter, the letter "M" is Mitsuru and Mikan, The letter "N" is Natsuhiko and Natsume. The mangaka admitted that it was pure coincidence!!!

Natsume and Mikan [in the manga] have actually kissed 5 times-
1. At the Christmas party when someone accidentally pushed Mikan over, resulting in her falling on top of Natsume, with their lips hitting.
2. The following few minutes after that, they were both on a tree when Mikan declared it wasn't a proper kiss-Natsume then kissed her for a while. After that shocking moment, he jumped off the tree, looked back at her, then walked away.
3. The following year, when Mikan is trapped in the dome Natsume finally finds her after so many searches because there was a barrier around the dome-Shiki [the new middle school principal] had decided to loosen the barrier. He asks her for a kiss for his Christmas present, as a replacement of something.
4. Natsume then asks [greedy little pig :P] for her to confess her feelings for him. After they both do, they kiss, again.
5.When they exchange their Alice stones [technically a proposal] the moon is their witness, and they seal the vow with a kiss-right after that, the barrier reseals itself, and Natsume falls down into the snow.

Natsume Hyūga
Natsume Hyuuga (Hyuuga Natsume 日向 棗?) is the male protagonist of Gakuen Alice.
He is Mikan's rival and, as of chapter 144, boyfriend.
Natsume possesses the Fire Alice, which is unusually strong (due to his Alice Type), so he was categorized as a Dangerous Ability Type. He is the only special star in the Elementary Branch. Natsume is a smart student but often, he ditches classes. He has many followers and hasRuka Nogi as his best friend. He has a sister named Aoi Hyūga, who was held captive by Persona. His mother is Kaoru Hyūga who possessed the Memory Manipulating Alice. His father, along with Aoi and him, has the Fire Alice.
Natsume is voiced by Romi Paku in the anime.

Natsume has short black hair and red eyes that he has inherited from his mother (brown in anime). On each of his ears are alice restraining devices. His right ear has a gold plate with dragon carvings and the left an earring with a red ball made of blood crystals. Natsume sometimes wears a black cat mask to restrain his alice and is the signature for his nickname. He wears the standard elementary boys uniform, a black jacket with a white collar that does not have his star on it. Natsume doesn't wear his red bow. red plaid shorts and black knee high boots. During the time travel arc, he disguises himslef as Hayate and wears the middle school uniform to protect Mikan.
Personality Edit
Natsume comes off as cold and easy to anger, but this attitude is mostly a facade. He wishes no one to get involved with him. However, Natsume does have followers who admire him for his rebellious against the school, such as Mochiage; who also regualry skips class. He also has admirers, like Sumire who like Natsume for his looks and "coolness". On the other hand, Natsume has people who fear him for being the Dangerous Ability Class and call him out as a murder (it is unknown how true these rumors are), like Sumire's brother. Natsume brushes off these accusions, but it is not clear how he feels about this. This, along with the abuse and dangerous missions the ESP forces upon him, he began to lose hope in life and in his future. According to Ruka, before Mikan arrived, Natsume threw his life away and was on the road to failure, but upon her arrival, Natsume changed for the better and became stronger. Ruka and later Mikan are some of the few who knew about his kind side and his motives behind his behavior.
Natsume is protective to his friends and family and he is willing to suffer for them and sacrifice him life and freedom so that they won't get hurt. He hates the academy and wishes to escape to live peacefully with those he cares for the most. Being forced to do missons in the Dangerous Ability Class, Natsume has experienced the darker side of the academy. In the beginning of the story, he told Mikan to watch out because she was targeted. He also warned her not trust Narumi or any of the teachers. He suspected that the Elementary Principle was growing interested in her Alice and was causing her problems. His personality is inherited from his mother, Kaoru, who was also intelligent, blunt, and rebellious. Also, both mother and son had a much softer side for their friends and loved ones. Like Mikan, he hates the Elementary Principle and Persona for the abuse they have inflicted upon him and force him to do missions for the school. Although he refuses to listen to them at times, he complies to their orders in order to protect those most important to him (ex. Mikan, Aoi, and Ruka). He is aware that he suffers from the life-draining alice form and has admitted that he is afriad of dying in the near future. Caring about his friends, he kept his illness a secret form Ruka and Mikan so they wouldn't worry, but they already knew and assure him that they will support him.
He is very perverted for his age, as he stole Mikan's underwear (took off her skirt in the anime). Natsume has commented on her chest size when he touches her chest and repeatedly pulled on her top to have a look. He also often teases Mikan and calls her names. He found Mikan's cheerful personality annoying in the beginning and constantly bullies her just to make her mad. However, as he gets to know her, he falls in love with her. This changed him to be more gentle and open with others. He sees Mikan as the sun due to her personality and seems convinced that she might be the light that can save him from the darkness of the academy, which explains why he is so serious about his relationship with her and has no intentions on leaving her. He easily gets jealous when he sees Mikan with other guys and tries to get her away from them (sometimes he uses his alice on them). Sometimes, he can be rude with her and bicker with her. Other times, he is kind to her and becomes blunt about his feeling for her. But when Luna arrived, he acted cold so that Mikan wouldn't get hurt. Seeing how she is sinking into the same darkness he is in, he makes it his main goal to protect her and take her out of the academy so he can live with her forever. He loves Mikan so much that he says the idea of leaving her and living is the same as being dead, and that he will do anything to protect his and Mikan's future.

Mikan Sakura (Sakura Mikan 佐倉 蜜柑?) or Mikan Yukihira is the main character ofGakuen Alice. After following her best friend, Hotaru Imai, to Alice Academy, she discovered she has a very special alice and began her adventures as a student at the school. She is noted for being a cute and super vigorous child.[3] Mikan is voiced by Kana Ueda in a strong Kansai dialect. She is most known for being Hotaru's best friend, the possessor of the Nullification and Stealing Alices, and Natsume's love interest.

Appearance Edit
Mikan is a ten-year old girl in her debut. She is petite and average in height with big brown eyes (sometimes depicted as amber or olive green) and a heart-shaped face with a small nose. Her brown hair has natural curly tips that reach past her shoulders, but she usually ties it up in two pigtails. She sometimes styles her hair in a different way during special occasions. Mikan looks very much like her mother, sharing the same hair and eye colors, and face shape. She also looks like a younger version of Yuka when she lets her hair down. Furthermore, where Mikan's fringe splits it looks like her father's haircut, as Yuka's bangs do not split in the middle.
She is usually seen wearing the standard elementary school uniform for females, which consists of a black cardigan over a white collared shirt, a plaid red mini-skirt, and black knee-length boots. In the manga, she is also seen wearing the summer uniform.
Personality Edit
Cute and optimistic, also energetic, Mikan may look like an ordinary girl, but she is a gifted Alice. In terms of personality, Mikan is good-natured and caring towards her friends. Her clumsiness may lead her to trouble most of the time, but she has a very determined spirit. Her motto's, "Never Lose!" and "Never Give up!" have carried her through countless trials in her life in the academy.
Despite being a klutz, Mikan is quite athletic and is an excellent runner. In fact, her best subject is P.E., along with Home Economics. She houses a number of talents, which includes singing, dancing and playing the recorder. While she is below average in academics, Mikan is considered to be a walking barrier in the school because of her Alice. Mikan is a capable cook, as such she was shown teaching Sumire Shoda how to cook in the Anime and her ability to make tasty mochi and valentines chocolate. Her favorite treat is Fluff Puffs (Howalon in Japanese).
Like her father, Mikan is highly upbeat, loud, outgoing yet foolish and several times in the series she is shown to cheer up her friends. In chapter 102, Nodacchi comments on how similar she is to her father as she brings hope and light to everybody around her and allowing her to overcome many obstacles. She exhibits strong attachments to her friends and loved ones. She has a fear of the dark and ghosts, and can easily freak out. When it comes to romance and love, she is very clueless despite her many admirers, a trait similar to her mother. She is even oblivious to the romantic feelings that Natsume and Ruka have for her. When she does learn of their feelings, she is shocked and realizes that its Natsume whom she loves and she sees Ruka as a close friend. Apart from that, her innocent and cheerful personality allows her to befriend others easily, whether they are rivals or strangers. Her charms have even managed to turn a lot of students into friends and admirers. Before realizing her feelings for Natsume, Mikan was worried for his well-being and grew to care deeply about him, despite hating him for his cold attitude. Upon realizing her feelings for him, she is more open about her love for him and even accepted his proposal.
An endearing young girl with an innocent heart, Mikan is an incredibly brave, honourable and compassionate person, often risking her life and happiness for those dear to her. She is shown to be very caring, sensitive and somewhat stubborn as she won't back down without a fight, as shown with her regular bickering with Natsume. She can also be a crybaby at times.
Mikan is the type of person who easily forgets her worries and problems, mostly appearing happy and smiling. She always tries to make the best out of a bad situation, a trait that never fails to amaze even her closest friends. Often she can be clever and mature when needed. In contrast to her naivety, she can exhibit clever thinking and perceptiveness during critical situations.
A lot of people were doubtful of her at first, however, with her cheerfulness and charms, Mikan eventually gains a lot of friends and admirers in the academy. Mikan is also famous in the academy for being Natsume's partner with the Nullification Alice and later for her Stealing Alice which caused her to recieve unwanted attention from the Elementary School Principal and the members of the Dangerous Ability Class. She hates the Elementary Principle for his crimes against the students and teachers, but is willing to risk her life and freedom to protect her friends from them.
